Privacy Policy

Last updated 8 September 2026

Relief Map is used by people managing IBS, IBD and bathroom anxiety. Where you are and what you write in your notes says something about your health, so we treat it as health-adjacent data and handle it with that level of care. This policy describes what the app actually does — nothing more.

What we collect, and why

Your email address. It is your account. We use it to sign you in and to send you the messages the app needs to send — a sign-in link, a password reset, a receipt.

Your approximate location. Your device gives it to us only when you ask for something nearby. It is used to sort and measure distance to places around you. We do not keep a history of where you have been, and we never share your location with anyone.

What you save. Saved places, your private notes, quick observations you leave about a place, and saved routes. Notes are yours; they are not shown to other users.

Subscription status. If you subscribe to Plus, we store whether your subscription is active and when the current period ends. We never see or store your card details.

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not share your location with anyone — not advertisers, not partners, not insurers, not other users. We show no ads and run no advertising or cross-site tracking.

Legal basis (GDPR)

Contract. Your email, account and saved content — we cannot provide the service without them.

Consent. Access to your device location. Your browser or phone asks first, and you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings. The app still works without it; you search by place name instead.

Legal obligation. Payment and tax records for Plus subscriptions.

Where notes or location reveal something about your health, we rely on your explicit consent, given when you choose to write a note or turn location on. You can delete either at any time.

How long we keep it

Account data and saved content are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Deleting a saved place, note or route removes it immediately. Location is used in the moment and not stored as a history. Payment records are kept as long as tax law requires — normally seven years — and are held by our payment processor.

Who processes data for us

Supabase — database and sign-in.

Stripe — payments for Plus. Card details go to Stripe directly; we never see or store them.

Cloudflare — hosting the map tiles your browser loads.

OpenRouteService — route planning for Plus members. It receives the start and end of the route you ask us to plan.

These are processors acting on our instructions. Some are outside the EU and UK; those transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.

Where our users are

Relief Map serves people in 35 countries, including the European Union and the United Kingdom. GDPR and UK GDPR rights below apply to everyone who uses the app, wherever they are — we do not think it is worth having two standards.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, receive it in a portable format, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict its use. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

Deleting your account

Open Settings and choose Delete account. That removes your account and everything attached to it: saved places, notes, observations, saved routes and your subscription record. It is a real deletion, not a hidden flag, and it cannot be undone.

Cookies

We use only what the app needs to work: a sign-in session and your saved preferences, such as light or dark mode. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of.
